Baadshah

Baadshah (1999) is an Indian action comedy from the directing duo Abbas-Mustan you can watch online on iFILM. Shah Rukh Khan plays a small-time private detective who gets taken for a secret-service agent through a sheer mix-up.

Badshah signs on for a missing-child case and lands square in the middle of a conspiracy: someone is plotting to kill the head of government. From there it runs on disguises, chases, masks, body doubles and full Bollywood chaos, where a song always squeezes in between two fights. A whole circus of characters helps and hinders him, including an ice-cold villain played by Amrish Puri.

This is Shah Rukh Khan at the peak of his comic charm — mugging, flirting and saving the country without ever dropping the grin, even at gunpoint. The film winks openly at James Bond and Mrs. Doubtfire, then pulls it off on an Indian scale across nearly three hours. Pure late-'90s entertainment, no pretensions, plenty of dance numbers.
