Synopsis
Master Cheng (2019) is a Finnish-Chinese comedy-drama directed by Mika Kaurismäki — watch it online on iFILM. Cheng, a Shanghai restaurant owner, flies to the far end of Finland with his young son after losing his wife in an accident. He's chasing quiet. An old Finnish friend has a farm in the countryside, surrounded by lakes and forest and very few people.
The village receives them with characteristic northern reserve. Cheng speaks no Finnish; nobody there speaks Chinese. He cooks, though — and it turns out that's a language everyone understands.
