Synopsis
Gorgo (1961) is a British giant-monster picture you can watch online on iFILM. An undersea eruption off the Irish coast frees a prehistoric reptile from the rock, and two treasure hunters decide the beast is worth more alive than any sunken gold.
They haul it to London, christen it Gorgo and put it on show for paying crowds. What nobody works out in time is the obvious thing: the captured creature is only a baby. Its mother stands twice as tall, and she rises from the sea to march on the capital, flattening everything between her and her child. Bill Travers and William Sylvester play the promoters whose greed brings the Thames bridges and Piccadilly down around them.
Director Eugène Lourié, once a production designer for Jean Renoir, built his monster from suits and miniatures instead of cartoons, and the climactic wrecking of London still hits hard for 1961. The twist worth noting: the film roots for the mother, not the men with guns. A treat for old-school kaiju fans. Stream Gorgo (1961) online on iFILM.
