Synopsis
"It Started in Naples" (1960) is a Hollywood romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Melville Shavelson. Clark Gable and Sophia Loren lead a story about an American so systematic he's practically a filing cabinet — dropped into a city that runs entirely on instinct.
Philadelphia lawyer Mike Hamilton flies to Naples to sort out his late brother's estate, a brother he hadn't seen in years. The brother left an eight-year-old son. The boy is being raised by his aunt Lucia, a nightclub dancer on Capri — played by Sophia Loren. Mike's plan is clean: take the child to America. Naples, Lucia, and the boy himself have other ideas.
Vittorio De Sica plays the local lawyer Vitale, entirely at home while Gable's Hamilton very much isn't. Shot on location in Naples and Capri, the film is one of the sunniest productions of its era, and Loren in 1960 was at the height of her European career — she's the one running this story, with Gable catching up.
