The Lost World
In the middle of the twentieth century, you fall off the brink of time!
Synopsis
The Lost World (1960) is Irwin Allen's adventure-fantasy you can watch online on iFILM, drawn from Arthur Conan Doyle's novel. Professor Challenger insists that on a sheer plateau lost above the Amazon, dinosaurs are still very much alive — and he means to prove it.
The expedition he assembles barely tolerates one another. Rival scientist Summerlee comes to pick apart every claim, big-game hunter Lord Roxton (Michael Rennie) wants a trophy no rifle has ever bagged, reporter Malone chases the story, and Jennifer Holmes (Jill St. John) talks her way along against her father's wishes. Once they scale the cliffs, the way down vanishes and the jungle above runs on rules that expired millions of years ago: hunting lizards the size of trucks, cannibal tribes, rivers of lava.
Shot in saturated color, the film famously cast magnified monitor lizards and iguanas as its dinosaurs — a trick that plays as charmingly naive now and gives the whole thing a pulp-serial warmth. Claude Rains barrels through as the hot-tempered Challenger, with Fernando Lamas rounding out the party. For anyone who loves old-school science-meets-danger storytelling, this prehistoric detour is worth a night. Stream The Lost World (1960) online on iFILM.
