Jane wakes in a dusty attic, roped to a chair, with no memory of how she got there or who tied her up. That's the opening of Infinitum: Subject Unknown (2021), a British sci-fi thriller you can watch online on iFILM.

Once she works herself free and makes it outside, the streets are empty — not a soul anywhere. And every attempt to break out ends the same way: a fresh morning, the same attic, the same chair, the same ropes. Jane is trapped in a time loop, and the only thing that shifts from cycle to cycle are the scraps of memory she manages to keep. The clues point toward the shadowy Wytness Quantum Research Centre, where someone is running experiments on her reality itself.

Director Matthew Butler-Hart shot the entire film on an iPhone during the UK's first lockdown, which explains its claustrophobic scale and near-total reliance on one actress, Tori Butler-Hart, carrying the frame almost alone. Ian McKellen and Conleth Hill lend their voices off-screen. It's a low-budget puzzle box for anyone who likes Groundhog Day bent into cold science fiction.
