Synopsis
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019) is an Indian historical epic you can watch online on iFILM. Kangana Ranaut both stars and co-directed alongside Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi — one of the few major Bollywood productions where the lead actress also stepped behind the camera mid-shoot.
The film follows Lakshmibai, born Manikarnika, a Rajput princess who married the Maharaja of Jhansi. After his death, the British East India Company moved to annex her kingdom. She refused. In the spring of 1857, as resistance spread across the subcontinent, she organized the defense of Jhansi's fort, trained her own soldiers, and eventually rode into battle at the head of her cavalry. She died at Gwalior in June 1858.
The film was one of India's biggest box-office openings of early 2019. Ranaut took over co-direction after production difficulties and rebuilt key sequences herself — making the film as much her story as Lakshmibai's. Watch Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019) on iFILM.
