Viceroy's House

Viceroy's House (2017) is a British-Indian historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Downstairs: five hundred Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh servants whose lives are about to be split by a border that doesn't exist yet. A young officer and a girl from the household find themselves on opposite sides of a line drawn in London, while the men above them argue over maps.

Chadha, herself of Punjabi heritage, shaped this as something personal — a film about what political decisions feel like from below, when the stroke of a pen determines which country your family ends up in.
