From Beyond the Grave

From Beyond the Grave (1974) is a British horror anthology from Amicus you can watch online on iFILM. At an antiques shop called Temptations, the Proprietor — played by Peter Cushing — sells curios to customers who try to cheat him.

Four buyers walk off with their prizes: a mirror, a medal, a snuffbox and an old carved door. Each one short-changes the shop in some small, dishonest way, and each one pays for it. The four tales share no plot, only a tone of polite dread, dry wit and an ending you can't talk your way out of. David Warner, Donald Pleasence and Lesley-Anne Down fill out the cast.

This is classic Amicus, the studio that rivaled Hammer for stylish, low-budget British chills in the 1970s. Director Kevin Connor keeps the black comedy and the genuine suspense in balance, and Cushing's wraparound role gives the whole thing some real menace.
