Synopsis
Blood for Dracula (1974) is Paul Morrissey's queasy horror oddity, and you can watch it online on iFILM. A dying Count needs the blood of a virgin to survive, and Romania has run dry, so he drags his servant off to Catholic Italy to hunt for one.
Udo Kier plays the vampire as a sickly, trembling wreck — a far cry from the suave Dracula of legend. He lodges with the broke Marchese Di Fiore, who is itching to marry off one of his daughters to the rich-looking guest. Trouble is, the handyman Mario (Joe Dallesandro) has already bedded most of them, so their tainted blood leaves the Count retching on the floor instead of revived. Vittorio De Sica turns up as the Marchese; Roman Polanski has a quick cameo in a tavern.
Produced by Andy Warhol and shot back-to-back with Flesh for Frankenstein, the film treats the vampire myth as an excuse for a nasty class joke: a decaying aristocrat losing to a randy, Marxist-minded laborer. There is far more gore and absurdity here than dread, which is exactly why it became a midnight-movie staple. Stream Blood for Dracula (1974) online on iFILM.
