Synopsis
Blue Caprice (2013) is a cold, quiet American thriller you can watch online on iFILM. It grows out of what froze the Washington suburbs in October 2002, when two shooters firing from the trunk of an old Chevrolet picked off strangers at gas stations and parking lots.
Director Alexandre Moors keeps the gunfire mostly off screen. What grips him instead is the slow work of one grown man molding an abandoned teenager into an obedient killer. Isaiah Washington plays John, who scoops the boy up on Antigua and brings him to the States, passing him off as a son. Tequan Richmond, as Lee, silently absorbs another person's grievance against the world until it becomes his own.
The whole thing is shot in a muted register — no swelling score, no flashy chases, just dread accumulating over long takes and empty highways. Moors' first feature premiered at Sundance and still ranks among the most clear-eyed studies of how a sniper is made. This is for viewers chasing understanding, not adrenaline.
