Synopsis
The House with Laughing Windows (La casa dalle finestre che ridono, 1976) is Pupi Avati's Italian giallo, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Stefano, a young art restorer, takes a job in a remote northern village to rescue a crumbling church fresco of Saint Sebastian's torment.
The painter who made it died long ago — a madman who only worked from people in their final agony. As Stefano scrapes back the paint, the village closes ranks around him. Neighbors lie. Friends vanish. And somewhere behind the shutters of an old farmhouse, someone is laughing. Lino Capolicchio, Francesca Marciano and Gianni Cavina lead the cast.
Avati skips the body count and builds dread out of rural silence, peeling plaster and bad weather. Horror fans have spent decades passing this one around as a quiet classic of 1970s Italian terror, and its ending still lands harder than any chase.
