Synopsis
Strayed (Les égarés, 2003) is a French wartime drama from director André Téchiné — watch online on iFILM. Starring Emmanuelle Béart and Gaspard Ulliel, the film opens in June 1940 as the German army reaches Paris and thousands flee south along packed country roads.
Odile, a young war widow and schoolteacher, sets off with her two children. When dive-bombing German fighters strafe the refugee column and her car breaks down, the three take shelter in the woods. That's where they run into Yvan — a seventeen-year-old runaway with no schooling and no past he's willing to explain. He can light fires, find food, and crack open an abandoned farmhouse. Why he's out here alone is another question.
Téchiné keeps the war at the margins and the unease between Odile and Yvan at the centre — an attraction assembled from suspicion, gratitude, and the particular closeness of strangers thrown together by catastrophe. Béart is precise and guarded; Ulliel, in one of his earliest major roles, is raw and watchful. Stream Strayed (2003) online on iFILM.
