Synopsis
Being 17 (Quand on a 17 ans, 2016) is a French drama from André Téchiné that you can watch online on iFILM. Set high in the Pyrenees, among snowbound slopes and scattered farms, it follows two classmates locked in a feud neither of them can quite put into words.
Damien lives with his doctor mother while his father, a military pilot, serves overseas. Thomas, raised by a foster family up the mountain, takes his anger out on Damien with his fists at every chance. Then Thomas's mother lands in hospital, and Marianne invites the boy to stay under their roof. Sharing a home forces them to look again at what that anger was really hiding.
Sandrine Kiberlain plays the mother who reads both boys long before they read themselves. Téchiné shoots adolescence with no lectures and no rush — the turning seasons in the mountains say more than dialogue ever could. A quiet, clear-eyed film about the age when hatred and attraction are hard to tell apart. Stream Being 17 online on iFILM.
