Synopsis
Mr. Nobody Against Putin (2025) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM. In the Ural town of Karabash, school cameraman and odd-job man Pavel Talankin spent years filming assemblies and graduations — until the war turned his camera into a tool for quiet, dangerous record-keeping.
From 2022 onward, an ordinary primary school on Russia's edge changes shape week by week: patriotism lessons, flags, wartime songs, children steered toward the army from their earliest grades. Talankin stays inside the machine and secretly films what is usually kept off the record — the way propaganda enters the classroom through the timetable and the morning lineup. He smuggles the footage out and shapes it into a film with director David Borenstein.
Almost everything you see was shot by the subject himself, and that's the point: the war reaches you not from the front but from the hallway of a provincial school. The film premiered at Sundance in 2025 and took a Special Jury Award there. A heavy, clear-eyed view from the inside for anyone trying to understand how a propaganda apparatus actually runs.
