Synopsis
The Illusion (L'abbaglio, 2025) is an Italian historical comedy-drama from Roberto Andò you can watch online on iFILM. In the spring of 1860, Giuseppe Garibaldi sails out of Quarto with a thousand volunteers to rouse the Italian south.
Two Sicilians end up in the ranks: Domenico Trico, a peasant who had emigrated north, and Rosario Spitale, a travelling conjurer. Garibaldi's loyal colonel Vincenzo Orsini (Toni Servillo) stays at his side. When the volunteers land at Marsala they run straight into a Bourbon army that vastly outnumbers them, and the road to Palermo looks impossible. So the general stages a trick worthy of a stage magician — feint one way, slip past the other.
Andò films the Risorgimento not as a marble monument but as a sly adventure where wit and bluff beat raw numbers. Servillo plays it straight while the Ficarra–Picone comic duo keep things light without dropping the history underneath. Stream The Illusion (2025) online on iFILM.
