Synopsis
Tokyo Fist (1995) is a brutal Japanese action drama by Shinya Tsukamoto you can watch online on iFILM. Tsuda, a mild insurance salesman who lives by the clock, runs into an old schoolmate — now a semi-pro boxer with a wrecked face and a calm, low-burning rage.
That meeting sets off a chain reaction. Tsuda suspects the boxer of an affair with his fiancée Hizuru; she throws herself into a world of blood and pain of her own; and he signs up at the gym to forge his own body into a weapon. Tsukamoto directs and takes a lead role himself, with his brother Kôji Tsukamoto opposite him and Kahori Fujii as Hizuru.
Made right after the cult hit Tetsuo, it carries the same signature — jagged cuts, the metallic drone of the city, flesh treated as a battlefield. It's short, barely over an hour, and it never lets up. Not for the squeamish, but if hard Japanese cinema about the body and obsession is your thing, don't skip it.
