Synopsis
The Coldest Game (Ukryta gra, 2019) is a Polish Cold War spy thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Łukasz Kośmicki. Warsaw, October 1962 — the Cuban Missile Crisis is at its peak, and the CIA needs a chess player. The one they call is drunk.
Josh Mansky (Bill Pullman) is a former US chess champion, now an unreliable math professor the agency had written off. The Soviet grandmaster refused anyone else as an opponent, so Mansky gets the assignment. The public match runs cover for an intelligence operation that neither side fully controls. Aleksei Serebryakov plays the Soviet champion with cold precision; Robert Więckiewicz gives the Polish security service its own angle on the whole affair.
The film earns its tension by keeping Mansky genuinely untrustworthy throughout — you're never sure if he's being played, playing along, or just barely functioning. The Polish production shoots Warsaw 1962 with a documentary eye: the cold feels factual rather than atmospheric. Stream The Coldest Game online on iFILM.
