Canvas (2020) is a nine-minute animated short from Netflix, available to watch online on iFILM. Directed by Frank E. Abney III, it follows a grandfather who has lost someone he loved and can no longer paint. The easel sits in the corner. The brushes stay dry.

Then his granddaughter shows up. No words. She just picks up a brush.

Abney tells the whole story — grief, creative paralysis, and the quiet way someone else pulls you back — without a single line of dialogue. The animation has a painterly, slightly unfinished quality that fits what the film is about: something still being worked through. At nine minutes it leaves more room than most features manage.
