Land Of The Sons

Land of the Sons (La terra dei figli, 2021) is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama you can watch online on iFILM. Claudio Cupellini directs this Italian-French adaptation of Gipi's graphic novel.

The world already ended. The water is poison, the soil is dead, and the survivors have splintered into vicious clans where kindness gets you killed. A boy grows up by a river beside his father, knowing nothing else. When the father dies, all he leaves behind is a battered journal filled with words the boy was never taught to read. To learn what his father was trying to say, he sets off along the water into a land where a stranger is more dangerous than any animal. Leon de La Vallée, Paolo Pierobon, Valeria Golino and Valerio Mastandrea lead the cast.

Cupellini shoots it lean and brutal: little dialogue, gray skies, mud, violence stripped of any glamour. It's a coming-of-age story buried inside the end of the world, about a child forced to reinvent humanity because no one around him remembers it.
