About
Synopsis
"I Love to Singa" (1936) is an eight-minute Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies cartoon you can watch online on iFILM. Tex Avery directed it near the start of his time at the studio, and the anarchic timing he'd go on to perfect is already sharp here.
The premise is one long punchline: an owl father trains his sons in classical music until one hatchling opens his beak and jazz falls out. The father shows him the door. The little outcast — named Owl Jolson, a pointed jab at Al Jolson — makes his way to a radio station and sings his heart out. Watch "I Love to Singa" (1936) online on iFILM.
