Synopsis
Dracula's Daughter (1936) is a Universal horror classic you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Lambert Hillyer as a direct sequel to the 1931 original, it picks up the moment the Count is destroyed — and finds that his heir is very much alive.
Countess Marya Zaleska (Gloria Holden) does not celebrate her freedom. She burns her father's coffin in a private ritual and waits for the hunger to lift. It doesn't. Desperate for a cure, she tracks down London psychiatrist Dr. Garth (Otto Kruger), asking him to treat her compulsions as an illness rather than a curse. Edward Van Sloan returns as Van Helsing, now under arrest for the Count's murder and tangled up in the Countess's increasingly deadly search for relief.
What sets the film apart from its era is Holden's performance — controlled, mournful, almost sympathetic. Zaleska reads less as a predator than as someone trapped. For a Hollywood horror picture from the mid-thirties, that's an unexpected angle. Stream Dracula's Daughter online on iFILM.
