Synopsis
As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me (So weit die Füße tragen, 2001) is a German war drama you can watch online on iFILM, tracing one prisoner's near-impossible walk home.
Michael Mendl and Bernhard Bettermann carry the story of Clemens Forell, a German POW sent to a lead mine near the Bering Strait after World War II. In the winter of 1949 he slips into the taiga. An NKVD officer trails him, and ahead lie roughly eight thousand miles across Siberia toward the Persian border — and three years in which any step could be his last.
The screenplay comes from Josef Martin Bauer's novel, which he set down from the account of a man who claimed to have made the trek, and that is why the frostbite, hunger and chance encounters feel stripped of movie gloss. It is long and unhurried, so come for slow survival rather than a chase. Stream As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me (2001) online on iFILM.
