Synopsis
Fort Bliss (2014) is Claudia Myers' military drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Staff Sergeant Maggie Swann, a decorated U.S. Army medic, comes home from a long deployment in Afghanistan to find that her five-year-old son barely remembers who she is.
While Maggie was overseas, her ex-husband and his girlfriend raised the boy, and now the child clings to them instead of to her. Michelle Monaghan plays a woman pulled apart by two duties — the uniform keeps calling her back for training, a tentative romance with a base mechanic (Ron Livingstone) is just beginning, and she can't quite switch off the soldier once she's through her own front door. Pablo Schreiber and Emmanuelle Chriqui round out the family she's trying to step back into.
Myers, who cut her teeth making documentaries for the armed forces, skips the battlefield spectacle and the speeches about heroism; what interests her is the cost of coming back. A quiet, honest drama for anyone drawn to stories of women in service and the families a war catches off guard. Stream Fort Bliss (2014) online on iFILM.
