Director Vikram Kumar cast three real-life generations of the Akkineni acting dynasty: Nageswara Rao, the patriarch of Telugu cinema, his son Nagarjuna, and grandson Naga Chaitanya. For Nageswara Rao, Manam turned out to be his final screen role — which gives the film's central idea of souls finding their way back to each other a weight the script never had to explain. Shriya Saran and Samantha Ruth Prabhu round out the leads. At 163 minutes, it's big, musical, and entirely sincere about the proposition that love doesn't end at death.
