Synopsis
The Boxer's Omen (魔, 1983) is a Hong Kong horror-action film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Kuei Chih-Hung for Shaw Brothers — one of the most brazenly strange genre hybrids the studio ever released.
Chan Hung watches his brother get crippled by a cheating Thai boxer and sets out for Thailand to settle the score. What he finds is something far bigger: a dying monk, a family curse stretching back generations, and an initiation into Buddhist black magic that makes ring-side revenge look uncomplicated. The film moves between martial arts sequences and ritualistic horror set pieces with complete disregard for tonal consistency — and that's exactly the point.
Kuei Chih-Hung shot parts of The Boxer's Omen on location at real Thai religious sites, and the practical creature effects hold up in the unsettling way that handmade things sometimes do. Genuinely odd, genuinely committed to its own logic. Stream The Boxer's Omen (1983) online on iFILM.
