Synopsis
The Dunwich Horror (1970) is a horror film drawn from H.P. Lovecraft's story, and you can watch online on iFILM. A peculiar young man named Wilbur Whateley arrives in Arkham hunting the Necronomicon — a forbidden book of spells kept locked away at the university.
When the proper channels fail him, Wilbur turns his attention to a student, Nancy. He lures her out to the family manor in Dunwich, hiding the real reason he wants her there. The Whateley heir is trailed by an old, ugly secret, and his ambitions run far past mere theft: he means to restore his bloodline as masters of the universe. Standing in his way is occult scholar Dr. Henry Armitage, who starts digging once Nancy goes missing.
Daniel Haller directed this one for AIP at the height of the studio's appetite for cosmic dread. Dean Stockwell plays Wilbur opposite Sandra Dee, with a young Talia Shire turning up in a small part. The movie wears its era openly — psychedelic montage, an uneasy electronic drone in place of a normal score. A solid pick for retro-horror fans and anyone deep into Cthulhu lore.
