Synopsis
A Summer Tale (Den bästa sommaren, 2000) is a Swedish family drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Ulf Malmros sets his story in the summer of 1958 — the year Sweden reached the World Cup final on home soil and lost to Brazil. Two orphaned children, Mårten and Annika, are sent to spend the summer with Yngve Johansson, a dour funeral director who was not expecting them and is not pleased.
Kjell Bergqvist plays Yngve without softening him, which is why the shift actually lands when it comes. The kids discover their guardian is quietly smitten with their schoolteacher and decide to do something about it. A Scandinavian co-production between Sweden, Norway and Denmark, the film works best as a quiet study of three lonely people who didn't know they needed each other.
