His senior colleagues won't hear it: HIV, they insist, is somebody else's problem, a Western affliction with no business in their hospital. So Kirsan smuggles blood samples to Moscow, and the lab answers with the truth. Enter Dmitry Goncharov, one of the few epidemiologists in the country who grasps what is unfolding in Elista. What follows is a quiet, tense race against the clock, against fear, and against a bureaucracy that would rather bury an outbreak than name it. Askar Ilyasov and Nikita Yefremov lead the cast.

Director Yevgeny Stychkin frames the story around the people the state pressures into silence, not the virus itself.
