Eric (Season 1)

Eric (2024) is a six-part British drama series from director Lucy Forbes — watch it online on iFILM. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Vincent Anderson, a volatile children's TV producer whose nine-year-old son goes missing somewhere in 1980s New York City, and who responds to the crisis in ways that make everything worse.

Vincent is already a wreck before the disappearance: a controlling, self-destructive man whose marriage to Cassie (Gaby Hoffmann) is barely holding together. When his son Edgar vanishes, Vincent becomes fixated on building a giant puppet called Eric — a character from his own show — convinced the creature is communicating with him. While Vincent unravels, detective Ledroit (McKinley Belcher III) follows the case into corners of the city the mainstream press ignores: gay clubs, runaway kids, bodies that surface without explanation.

The show layers a missing-child thriller over a portrait of a city in crisis — the AIDS epidemic, institutional indifference, a police department more interested in appearances than answers. Cumberbatch goes further from his comfort zone than usual here. Stream Eric (2024) online on iFILM.
