Sergius Against Evil Spirits, Season 1 (2022) — watch online on iFILM: six episodes of Russian fantasy action with a heavy comic streak. The hero is a defrocked priest who traded his parish for hunting creatures out of Slavic folklore.

This first season pairs him up. Investigator Catherine crosses his path, and at first the existence of Koshchei, the cat Bayun and the rest of the undead sounds to her like nonsense. A few cases later the skeptic has become a partner: she learns to tell an ordinary murder from the work of a monster, he learns to tolerate someone looking over his shoulder. Each episode is its own hunt, yet a longer thread runs underneath about why the church cast Sergius out.
