The Highway (Season 1)

The Highway (Trassa, 2024) is a Russian crime mystery series you can watch online on iFILM. Director Dushan Gligorov sets the story in a southern resort town where the holiday sheen hides something rotten. St. Petersburg judge Svetlana arrives chasing her adopted daughter Kira, who vanished while searching for her biological parents.

Then a second nightmare hits the same streets. A thirteen-year-old girl shoots her sleeping family at night and tries to take her own life; a neighbor hears the shots and cuts her down from the noose. Investigator Elvira Barayeva, played by Anna Mikhalkova, gets handed the case nobody wants. The deeper she digs, the clearer it becomes that the shooting and Kira's disappearance share a buried past Svetlana would rather keep silent. The cast includes Karina Razumovskaya, Alexander Ilyin Jr. and Semyon Serzin.

Across eight episodes the tension comes not from chases but from a slow certainty that everyone in this town carries some guilt. Yuri Bykov wrote the script, and his trademark fury at provincial hopelessness bleeds through every scene. If you go for bleak Russian noir that refuses easy comfort, this one earns its runtime.
