Synopsis
Different Fortunes (1956) is a Soviet melodrama directed by Leonid Lukov — watch it online on iFILM. Tatiana Piletskaya, Tatiana Konyukhova, Georgy Yumatov and Julian Panich play a group of Leningrad graduates scattering into adult life from the same starting point.
The geometry is clear from the beginning: Sonya loves Styopa, Styopa loves Tanya, Tanya marries Fedya. Styopa takes a factory job in Siberia; Sonya follows. Tanya and Fedya enrol in college, but the modest student routine is not the life Tanya had in mind. Ambition outweighs affection, and she starts an affair with an older composer.
