Synopsis

Young constable Seryozhkin (Valery Zolotukhin) can't make the pieces fit. His digging brings him up against a rough-edged log-rafter named Ryaby, played by Vladimir Vysotsky — better known today as one of the Soviet Union's most iconic singer-poets, but here pure screen menace. The collision between Zolotukhin's dogged patience and Vysotsky's coiled unpredictability is what makes this modest detective film still worth tracking down.
