Synopsis
Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You (2012) is an American-Italian coming-of-age drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Roberto Faenza and based on Peter Cameron's novel of the same name.
James is eighteen, perceptive beyond his years, and almost entirely unable to function in the social world around him. His last summer before college in New York is spent mostly in therapy — which he uses to reconstruct a life made up of divorced parents, a sister drafting her memoirs at twenty-five, and a university path he never actually agreed to. Tobey Regbo plays him with careful restraint. Marcia Gay Harden, Lucy Liu, Stephen Lang, Ellen Burstyn, and Aubrey Plaza fill in the world around him.
