"The Cuckoo's Curse" (El cuco, 2023) is a Spanish-American thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Director Mar Targarona builds unease around a premise that should be straightforwardly pleasant: a home swap. Spanish couple Marc and Anna trade keys with German pair Hans and Olga for the holidays, and both families step across their respective thresholds into something they didn't agree to.
Belén Cuesta anchors the Spanish half of the story with quietly mounting dread — the kind that doesn't announce itself until it's already settled in. Familiar rooms, overly pleasant neighbours, small things that don't quite add up. At 99 minutes, the film earns its tension rather than rushing it.
