Synopsis
Seven Veils (2025) is a psychological drama directed by Atom Egoyan — watch it online on iFILM. Amanda Seyfried plays Jeanine, a theatre director given the task of reviving her former mentor's most celebrated work: the opera Salome.
Returning to the opera world after years away, Jeanine finds the staging forces open memories she has kept carefully sealed. Repressed trauma begins bleeding into her creative decisions, and the line between Salome's story — obsession, manipulation, a head on a platter — and her own slowly disappears. Rebecca Liddiard, Douglas Smith, and Mark O'Brien co-star; Finnish soprano Karita Mattila appears in the production sequences, lending the opera scenes an unnerving authenticity.
Egoyan has spent a career dragging the past into the present — The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica, Remember — and here he uses opera itself as both subject and instrument, letting the Salome myth do its own quiet interrogating.
