Synopsis
The Boys of Paul Street (1969) — watch online on iFILM — is a Hungarian-American adaptation of Ferenc Molnár's celebrated 1906 novel, directed by Zoltán Fábri. The cast includes Anthony Kemp, William Burleigh and John Moulder-Brown alongside Hungarian veterans Mari Törőcsik and Sándor Pécsi.
Two gangs of Budapest boys are at war over a vacant lot. To the Pál Street Boys, that strip of ground is everything — their base, their flag, their entire idea of belonging. Their rivals, the Red Shirts, want it back. General Boka leads the defense with sand bombs and sheer stubbornness. Fábri takes what sounds like a children's adventure and turns it into something quietly devastating — the film picked up an Oscar nomination in the foreign-language category, and for good reason.
