Synopsis
Ilya Muromets (1956) is Aleksandr Ptushko's bogatyr fantasy, free to watch online on iFILM. A peasant's son, paralyzed from birth, is healed by wandering pilgrims who hand him a drink of water — and with it the strength to hold a frontier post against an army single-handed.
Back on his feet, Ilya (Boris Andreyev) rides to serve the prince of Kiev, knocks the whistling bandit Nightingale out of his oak, and leads the druzhina against the Tugar hordes. Alyosha Popovich and Dobrynya Nikitich fight beside him. Working against him is boyar slander that lands him in a dungeon right as the invasion breaks.
This was the first Soviet widescreen production, and it shows: tens of thousands of extras, walls of cavalry stretching to the horizon, a three-headed dragon built by hand decades before CGI existed. The sheer scale still holds up. Stream Ilya Muromets (1956) online on iFILM.
