Synopsis
The Teacher of Literature (1965) is a Soviet drama adapted from Chekhov, available to watch online on iFILM. A young schoolteacher named Nikitin works in a sleepy provincial town, falls for a local landowner's daughter, and marries her — and for a while it looks like happiness has simply arranged itself.
A warm house, homemade jam, a cat on the sofa, a kind wife, talk over endless cups of tea. Everything settled, everything calm. Yet under that comfort the man slowly notices a hollowness: the same faces, the same small phrases, a daily fuss that swallows anything alive. What yesterday felt like a cozy nest turns into a trap, and the literature teacher realizes how little air there is to breathe.
