Synopsis
The Muslim (1995) is a drama by Vladimir Khotinenko, available to watch online on iFILM. Soldier Nikolai Ivanov comes home after seven years as a prisoner in Afghanistan, and he brings a new faith back with him.
An Afghan peasant who had lost his own son spared Nikolai from a firing squad, and the young Russian converted to Islam. Back in his village he is sober, hard-working and suddenly a stranger: the place drinks itself numb, sells off its land, lives by old habits, while the returned son prays five times a day and refuses to touch what isn't his. Resentment builds, sharpest of all in his own brother. Yevgeny Mironov plays a man whose meekness lands harder than any fist.
