Synopsis
The Village Detective (1969) is a warm Soviet comedy with a detective twist that you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Ivan Lukinsky and starring Mikhail Zharov as the rural policeman Aniskin, it launched a much-loved trilogy of films about the character.
The mystery could hardly be smaller: an accordion goes missing from the village clubhouse. No clues, no witnesses, and pointing a finger at anyone feels wrong in a place where everyone has known each other for years. The clubhouse manager has already given up and started shopping for a replacement. Aniskin, though, wants the truth. He cracks the case not through hard interrogation but through quiet talk, a deep read of his neighbors, and plain country common sense.
Zharov plays the officer with no heroics at all — a wise, gentle, faintly sly old man the village trusts and obeys. Roman Tkachuk, Tatyana Peltzer and Lidiya Smirnova round out the cast. It's gentle cinema about settling a small rural incident the human way, perfect for a family evening or anyone who misses unhurried Soviet humor. Stream The Village Detective (1969) online on iFILM.
