TV-MASynopsis
Black Narcissus (2020), Season 1 is a BBC gothic drama you can watch online on iFILM — three episodes set in the 1934 Himalayas, where five Anglican nuns climb to an abandoned clifftop palace to build a school and a mission.
Mopu was once called the House of Women, and its walls hold too much. Sister Clodagh is meant to bring order, but the thin mountain air, the wind, and the isolation work on the nuns faster than they can settle the place. Tension builds between Clodagh, the unstable Sister Ruth, and the estate's caretaker Mr. Dean — and it cracks wide open by the Christmas episode. Forbidden longing, jealousy, and old ghosts pull everyone toward the very tragedy the palace seems to want repeated.
This is a fresh adaptation of Rumer Godden's 1939 novel, stepping out of the shadow of the Powell and Pressburger classic. Gemma Arterton anchors the miniseries with a coiled, restrained performance, and it stands as one of Diana Rigg's final roles. Stream Black Narcissus Season 1 online on iFILM.
