Pyotr Volkov is a blunt, hard-nosed ex-cop nicknamed Volchara who solves things by force. Alexander Adashev-Gursky is a wry journalist whose aristocratic surname matches his polish, and he leans on his head instead of his fists. One is a battering ram, the other cold calculation; together no case is beyond them. The whole show grows out of that mismatch, with investigations carried along on a current of needling and banter.
