On the road into a sleepy provincial town, the body of a teenager named Alik turns up. In a ravine close by sits an abandoned car belonging to Shatsky, a stranger driving in from Moscow.

The accident theory collapses fast: there's water in the boy's lungs. That means murder. Anna, a young investigator, is sure the outsider did it. Her boss, Mikhail Sergeyevich, insists the killer is one of their own. Shatsky, facing the blame, throws himself into the case to clear his name. The deeper everyone digs, the plainer it gets — almost every resident of this quiet town had a reason to want Alik dead.

The cast features Kirill Grebenshchikov, Svetlana Kolpakova, Dmitry Podnozov and Olga Demidova. Khomeriki skips the snappy procedural for a slow, suffocating noir set where everyone knows everyone and everyone is hiding something. The 18+ rating is for the bleakness, not the action.
