Sugar (2024) is an Apple TV+ detective series you can watch online on iFILM. Colin Farrell plays John Sugar, a private investigator working the fringes of Hollywood who takes a case that looks straightforward: find the missing granddaughter of a powerful producer. The director behind the pilot and several episodes is Fernando Meirelles, whose previous work includes City of God.

Sugar dresses well, listens more than he talks, and seems to understand people's weaknesses before they've said more than a sentence. The investigation pulls him through layers of the entertainment industry where every favour has a history and everyone knows someone who knows someone. Amy Ryan, James Cromwell, and Tony Dalton orbit the case in ways that keep shifting what it actually is. From the first episode the show signals that Sugar is not exactly what he presents himself as — and it holds that question longer than you'd think sustainable.
