TV-GSynopsis
South Pacific (2009) is a BBC nature documentary series you can watch online on iFILM. Across six episodes it maps the southern reach of the planet's biggest ocean: twenty thousand islands scattered through endless blue, and wildlife almost nobody has filmed.
The Natural History Unit crew spent eighteen months reaching the most remote spots on Earth — the atoll of Anuta, Kingman Reef, Tuvalu, Palau, the Tanna volcano in Vanuatu. Expect giant waves curling over a lone surfer, coconut crabs scaling palm trunks, and coral lagoons few people ever reach. Narration comes from Benedict Cumberbatch, recorded before Sherlock made him a household name.
Producer Huw Cordey shot the whole thing in high definition, and each episode closes with a making-of look at what the footage cost the team. It's calm, gorgeous viewing for anyone who loves Planet Earth-tier wildlife films. Stream South Pacific online on iFILM.
