Pat & Mat (Pat a Mat, 1979) is a Czech stop-motion series you can watch online on iFILM. Two neighbours in knitted sweaters, one red and one yellow, are obsessed with fixing and building everything themselves.

Every small household chore turns into an engineering saga. The easier the job looks, the more elaborate their solution gets — hanging a shelf, opening a tin, mounting a picture, and somehow the drill, the hammer and a pile of improvised gadgets all come out. There's almost no dialogue, just mumbled grunts and gestures, so it plays in any language at any age.

Animator Lubomír Beneš built the whole thing on simple charm: the pair are hopelessly clumsy yet never discouraged, happy with whatever mess they end up with. Kids come for the colour and motion, adults for the very familiar comedy of DIY gone sideways. Stream Pat & Mat online on iFILM.
