Synopsis
Sambre (2023) is a French-Belgian crime series you can watch online on iFILM. Along one stretch of road by a river in northern France, women keep getting attacked at dawn, always the same way — and for thirty years no one stops the man behind it.
Instead of following a single detective, the show maps the whole failure: victims nobody believes, officers who file the reports and move on, investigators who never link the matching pattern across cases, and one magistrate who finally sees the thread connecting decades of assaults. Alix Poisson leads a deep ensemble playing people on every side of a system that simply didn't act. The story stretches from the 1980s into the 1990s and beyond, each passing year adding more names to the list.
It's directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, an Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker who treats this real case like a clinical dissection rather than a thriller. The subject isn't really the attacker — it's how a society spent twenty-five years refusing to listen to women. A heavy, precise watch for anyone drawn to restrained European true crime.
