Synopsis
Theory of Big Money (2023) is a detective drama with a comic streak, ready to watch online on iFILM. Mikhail Nefyodov teaches probability theory at a university and recalls everything he has ever heard, seen or read. Numbers make far more sense to him than people do.
His ordered life cracks when his teenage son is diagnosed with a genetic illness that costs millions to treat. Nefyodov sells his apartment and places a flawlessly calculated bet on a local league match — and loses. He cannot have miscalculated, so there must be a variable he never saw: an underground bookmaking ring that fixes results in advance. The professor traces the people behind it and walks in to collect his winnings. That is how his war with the betting mafia begins.
Directed by Ksenia Miroshnik and Filipp Faiberg, the show stars Ilya Malanin alongside Maria Shumakova, Nino Ninidze and Ivan Fominov. The real hook isn't the scheme but the man running the numbers: someone without fear or attachments who slowly discovers he is human after all — fragile, dependent, alive.
